The Environment Agency supported by the Met police and DVSA has been conducting spot checks around London City Airport in a crackdown on waste crime, metal/cable theft, tax evasion and prevent dangerous vehicles from being
on the road.
During the day of action, vehicles were stopped by officers to identify offences and non-compliance. The driver of one vehicle was interviewed under caution by the police for suspected cable theft while an Environment Officer
questioned him on the duty of care.
If an organisation uses an illegal waste carrier to transfer waste, it risks being fined up to £5,000.
